The Ford Puma is one of those cars that quietly became a bestseller without making a massive fuss about it. Launched in 2019 as Ford's stylish compact crossover for the European market, it's now one of the most common cars on British and continental roads — and rightfully so. It's practical, decent to drive, and comes with Ford's SYNC 3 or SYNC 4 infotainment, which means wired CarPlay is baked in from the factory on most trims.

That's the good news. The slightly less good news? It's still wired. Every time you get in, cable out, plug in, wait for it to connect. It works, sure — but once you've used wireless CarPlay, going back to a cable feels genuinely archaic.

The Homniva Wireless CarPlay Adapter sorts this out properly. You plug it into your Puma's USB port once, pair it with your iPhone once, and from that point on it connects automatically every time you start the car. No cable. No faff. Just CarPlay, ready when you are.

Which Ford Puma Models Are Compatible?

The Puma launched with SYNC 3 on higher trims and SYNC 4 on later models. Both systems support wired CarPlay — and that's all you need for the Homniva adapter to work.

Year Trim / System Wired CarPlay Wireless via Homniva
2019–2021 Titanium, ST-Line (SYNC 3) ✅ ✅
2022–2023 ST-Line X, Titanium X (SYNC 4) ✅ ✅
2024–2026 All trims (SYNC 4) ✅ ✅
Any year Trend / base trim (no CarPlay) ❌ ❌

If you're not sure which trim you've got, the quickest way to check is to plug your iPhone into the USB-A port and see if CarPlay launches. If it does, you're good to go.

What You'll Need

  • The Homniva Wireless CarPlay Adapter
  • An iPhone running iOS 10 or later (iOS 16+ recommended)
  • Your Ford Puma's USB-A port (the one you'd normally plug your cable into)
  • About 3–5 minutes for the initial setup

How to Set Up Wireless CarPlay on Your Ford Puma

Step 1 — Plug In the Adapter

Start the car and plug the Homniva adapter into the USB-A port in your Puma's centre console. That's the same port you use for wired CarPlay. Give it ten seconds or so to boot up.

Step 2 — Enable Bluetooth on Your iPhone

Open your iPhone's Settings and make sure Bluetooth is switched on. You don't need to do anything else here — just leave it active.

Step 3 — Connect via Bluetooth

A new Bluetooth device called something like Homniva or CarPlay will appear in your iPhone's Bluetooth list. Tap it to pair. This is a one-time step.

Step 4 — Accept CarPlay on the Screen

Your Puma's SYNC screen will prompt you to allow CarPlay. Tap allow (or yes), and CarPlay will launch wirelessly within a few seconds.

Step 5 — Done. Every Future Journey Is Automatic.

From now on, every time you start the Puma, CarPlay connects automatically as soon as your phone is within range. No cables, no tapping — it just works.

Ford Puma CarPlay Compatibility by Market

🇬🇧 United Kingdom

The Puma has been a top-ten seller in the UK since launch. SYNC 3 and SYNC 4 CarPlay compatibility is standard across Titanium and ST-Line trims. The Homniva adapter works across all these variants without any modifications.

🇩🇪🇫🇷🇪🇸🇮🇹 Europe

The Puma is built in Romania and sold widely across Europe. Continental buyers on ST-Line, Titanium, and Vignale trims all get wired CarPlay as standard — all fully compatible with the Homniva adapter.

🇺🇸 United States

Ford doesn't sell the Puma in the US market — the equivalent would be the Ford Bronco Sport or Ford Escape. If you're stateside, check out our Ford Focus guide instead.

🇨🇦 Canada

Same as the US — the Puma isn't available in Canada. Ford Focus or Escape owners will find the same adapter works identically.

🇦🇺 Australia

The Ford Puma launched in Australia in 2021 and has built a solid following there. Australian models come with SYNC 3 and wired CarPlay, so the Homniva adapter is fully compatible.

Troubleshooting

CarPlay launched once but won't auto-connect now

Go to your iPhone's Bluetooth settings and forget the Homniva device, then re-pair from scratch. Nine times out of ten this sorts it immediately.

The SYNC screen shows the adapter but CarPlay won't load

Try a different USB port if your Puma has one — some trims have both a USB-A and USB-C port, and the adapter needs the USB-A. Also check that CarPlay is enabled under Settings → General → CarPlay on your iPhone.

Connection drops mid-journey

This is almost always a Wi-Fi interference issue. Go to Settings → Wi-Fi on your iPhone and make sure Auto-Join is off for any networks that might be interfering. A quick restart of your phone can also help reset the wireless connection.

Adapter not recognised at all

Unplug, wait ten seconds, plug back in. If the issue persists, try a different iPhone cable in the same port first to confirm the port itself is working.

FAQ

Does the Ford Puma ST have CarPlay?

Yes — the Puma ST comes with SYNC 3 or SYNC 4 depending on the year, and both include wired CarPlay. The Homniva adapter works on the ST just as it does on every other Puma trim with CarPlay.

Will this affect my Ford SYNC warranty?

No. The Homniva adapter simply plugs into the USB port — it doesn't modify the car's software or hardware in any way. There's nothing to void.

Do I need an internet connection for wireless CarPlay to work?

CarPlay itself doesn't need an internet connection — it runs through your iPhone. Apps like Maps and Music will use your phone's mobile data as they normally would. The adapter only needs Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on your phone to establish the wireless connection.

Can I use the same adapter in another car?

Yes, the Homniva adapter is fully portable. Unplug it from the Puma, plug it into any other CarPlay-compatible car, and it works. You may need to re-pair once in the new car, but that takes under a minute.

What's the difference between SYNC 3 and SYNC 4 for CarPlay?

Both support wired CarPlay, and both work identically with the Homniva adapter. SYNC 4 has a larger touchscreen and faster processor, but from a CarPlay perspective the experience is effectively the same.
